Alex Moussa Sawadogo

Alex Moussa Sawadogo holds a Master's degree in Art History from the University of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso and a Master of Art in Cultural and Media Management acquired in Hamburg, Germany. He specializes in the programming of African films and in the creation and management of cultural projects.
He was involved early on in many cultural projects and institutes in Burkina Faso, such as the Fespaco film festival, the contemporary dance festival "Dialogue de Corps" and the cultural centre "Olorun". He was in charge of Press and Culture at the Embassy of Burkina Faso in Germany in 2005. In 2007, together with friends from the Institute for Cultural Management and Media in Hamburg, he founded the Berlin African Film Festival - AFRIKAMERA. In 2011, he initiates with the same team the African contemporary dance festival "Border Border Express" and "Moussokouma" in 2013, "Nuits Blanches à Ouagadougou", "Timbuktu is Back", a biennial festival which takes place at the Hebbel am Ufer (HAU) in Berlin.
He has been Program Director at numerous festivals, such as the Winterthur Short Film Festival in Switzerland, "Wie im Film" in Berlin, Theater der Welt 2014 (Mannheim), Kampnagel in Hamburg, and Exterritority Project (Israel). At the 2017 Durban International Film Festival in South Africa, he was in charge of the programming of German Films (Focus Germany).
As a jury member in numerous film festivals, he was from 2012 to 2015 "Africa" consultant for the Locarno International Film Festival (Switzerland) and since 2014 "Africa" consultant for the Busan International Film Festival (South Korea), as well as for the Koudougou - Documentary Meetings in Burkina Faso. Since 2016, "Africa" consultant at the Hamburg International Film Festival and member of the Berlinale World Cinema Fund Commission. In 2020, he was appointed as film expert for the Africa 2020 season in France.
In 2016, he initiated the collective Generation Films and is the artistic director of the development and co-production laboratory Ouaga Film Lab. Since 2007, Alex Moussa Sawadogo has been the director of the Berlin African Film Festival "AFRIKAMERA", since 2018, manager of the "Jeune Création Francophone" fund, and since 2019, artistic attaché of the Festival Cinéma d'Afrique de Lausanne.
